NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader and former minister of laws Ashwani kumar on Sunday he urged party leaders to Punjab graciously accept the decision of the high command of Congress to appoint Navjot Singh Sidhu as the new chairman of the state party and emphasized maintaining unity while fighting the upcoming assembly elections.

“This is a time to be united. There are no winners or losers. Reconciliation is the way forward. All congressmen will hopefully have a role to play in the ideological struggle,” he said in a statement.
His comments come amid factions in Punjab unity and a series of multi-faction meetings before the party’s renewal.

Sidhu emerged as the frontrunner for the post of head of the PPCC, but the prime minister opposed the move and there was a flurry of political activity to prevent him from becoming the party’s new head, the sources said.
