afghanistan: Imran bats for ‘inclusive’ govt in talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran khan has called for the installation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan which provides representation to all ethnic groups in the war-torn country.
“After the meetings in Dushanbe with the leaders of Afghanistan’s neighbors, and especially after a long discussion with the President of Tajikistan Emomali rahmon, I have started a dialogue with the Taliban for an inclusive Afghan government to include Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks, “Imran tweeted on Saturday.” After 40 years of conflict, this inclusion will ensure peace and a stable Afghanistan, which benefits not only Afghanistan but also the region. ”
Leaders of other countries expressed almost similar views at the recent 20th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO-CHS), with economic cooperation among member states and the situation in Afghanistan as central themes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had spoken via video link, noted that the new interim government could not be called representative or inclusive, “as we do not see representatives of other ethnic groups there, but we believe that we should work with it. “.
Putin also criticized the withdrawal of US-led forces from Afghanistan and urged SCO member states to talk about how to deal with the volatile situation there.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said it was necessary to “encourage Afghanistan to establish an inclusive and broad-based political framework” and to “resolutely fight all forms of terrorism” so that it can live in peace with its neighbors.
He believed that Afghanistan should be guided to be more open and inclusive and to pursue moderate internal and external policies.
Earlier this month, the Afghan Taliban had announced a 33-member interim government without any women or non-Taliban. The makeshift configuration is mainly dominated by Pashtuns, who make up less than half of Afghanistan’s population.
