Aryan now in general cell, has video call with parents | India News

MUMBAI: Twelve days after your arrest in a drug case, actor Shahrukh khanAryan’s son spoke to his parents for the first time from Arthur Road Jail via mobile video call. This facility was introduced by prison authorities during the pandemic last year for inmates to communicate with their families and lawyers.
Aryan was sent to the Arthur Road Jail after an NDPS court sent him to judicial custody last week. “Aryan gave his mother’s number. He spoke with his mother and father through the video call facility for 10 minutes, ”confirmed a senior prison official. According to the rules, subtests can talk to their family members / lawyers two or three times a month in the presence of prison police officers. Currently, Arthur Road has 11 smartphones.
In another development, Aryan and six others, all arrested in the same drug case by the Narcotics Control Office (NCB), have been transferred from the prison quarantine cell. “All the inmates, who were kept in the quarantine cell, have been transferred to general cells,” said a jail official.
Last week, Aryan and others were kept in a quarantine cell under the rule. An inmate who is taken to jail is first kept in the quarantine cell for three to five days and transferred to a normal cell once the Covid test result is negative.
In June of last year, the Maharashtra the prisons department had stopped the physical assemblies (mulaqat) of prisoners with relatives and lawyers due to the pandemic and instead introduced the installation of video calls. As a result, 55 smartphones were installed in more than three dozen prisons at that time.
The facility has helped many inmates, a jail official said, adding that an inmate can speak to his family face-to-face via video call. “It is profitable and profitable,” a prison official had previously said.
Prison departments had created dedicated email IDs for each prison during the pandemic. A lawyer can visit the website and send an email to the prison authorities concerned, if he wishes to communicate with his client. An email may contain an inmate’s name, cell or barracks number, court case number, etc.
Once the prison authorities approve the electronic meeting, a time slot is assigned to a lawyer so that he can communicate with the client for a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes.
Before introducing this facility, a lawyer or family members would have to go to jail, register with the mulaqat registry, and then they could meet an inmate. The Arthur Road Jail may initiate the physical mulaqat of inmates with their families starting next week, as the collector has given the go-ahead, a source said.
In addition to this, last year the service of telephone calls through coin boxes was also introduced in the prisons. The prisoners, housed in various prisons, could make telephone calls from 60 coin boxes to their relatives. However, there is no coin box phone at Arthur Road Jail.
