Attack on federalism, says Punjab CM Channi on powers to BSF | India News


CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Charanjit singh Channi on Wednesday opposed the Interior Ministry’s decision to expand the Border Security Force (BSF) powers of arrest, search and seizure in a 50 km belt in Punjab.
“I strongly condemn the GoIThe unilateral decision to grant additional powers to BSF within a 50 kilometer belt along international borders, which is a direct attack on federalism. I urge the Minister of the Interior of the Union Amit shah to immediately reverse this irrational decision, ”he tweeted.

Congressional MP Manish Tewari also tweeted: “MHA notification enhancing BSF operational mandate, 15 to 50 km in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam violates constitutional public order and states police mandate Half of Punjab now will be under the jurisdiction of BSF @CHARANJITCHANNI should oppose it. ”
