Blast kills Taliban commander, wounds 11

JALALABAD: A bomb went through a vehicle carrying a Taliban chief of police in the east Afghanistan on Thursday, killing him and wounding 11 other people, authorities said.
The explosion occurred in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar Province, targeting the Taliban chief of police for Shigal district, said an official with the Islamist group.
“The police chief has died and eleven people have been injured,” he told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.
A doctor at the Kunar central hospital confirmed to AFP that he had received 11 wounded, including four Taliban fighters and seven civilians.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State-Khorasan group, which is active in eastern Afghanistan, has denounced similar attacks against the Taliban in the past.
The Taliban have fought with IS-K since their appearance in Afghanistan in 2014.
IS-K has claimed responsibility for some of the most recent attacks, including a suicide bombing among worshipers last week at a Shiite mosque in Kunduz province that killed about 100 people.
