Brazil reports 868 more Covid-19 deaths

BRASILIA: Brazil registered 868 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 541,266, the Ministry of Health he said on Saturday.
As many as 34,339 new cases were detected, bringing the total number of cases to 19,342,448, the ministry said.
Brazil currently has the second highest number of pandemic deaths in the world after the United States, and the third highest number of cases, after the USA and India.
The South American country, which is experiencing a new wave of infections with hospitals overwhelmed by patients, has a death rate of around 257.6 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, the ministry said.
Some 120 million people in Brazil have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and more than 33.2 million people have been fully vaccinated.
