MUMBAI: On Wednesday, the Maharashtra government requested the Bombay High Court to set up a special investigation team to investigate the CBI case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and conspiracy against former Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh and others on charges of transferring police officers in exchange for money.
The state said that former Maharashtra DGP Subodh Jaiswal was directly linked to the police transfers, and now that he was in charge of CBI, it would be in the interests of justice and for a fair investigation that CBI did not investigate the FIR. The FIR was the one that CBI had registered on April 21 based on its preliminary investigation into a complaint from a defender. Jaishri Patil, based on a letter and allegations of “corrupt negligence” made by the former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh in March 2021.
The state will be represented by the former attorney general Darius khambatta. On Wednesday, the junior special prosecutor Ranbir Singh mentioned the matter before a bank of Judges Nitin Jamdar and Sarang kotwal. The bank said it would listen to him next week.
