Addressing the Lieutenant Governors / Trustees conference of all Union Territories (UT), Tomar said that the implementation of central scheme it must be adequate and funds are not a limitation.
The benefits of central government schemes for the agricultural sector should go to the right farmers, he added.
The minister said that Kisan credit card (KCC) has been provided to farmers even under the shadow of the Covidpandemic.
The government has been running a campaign since February 2020 to cover all farmers under KCC with a special focus on PM Kisan beneficiaries.
Tomar also reported that a loan target of Rs 16 lakh crore has been set for the current fiscal year and that around Rs 14 lakh crore has already been granted to farmers through KCC.
During the conference, the Center asked UTs to provide assistance to farmers and banks to cover all eligible farmers. They were asked to schedule camps at the bank branch level to receive the KCC application form, to hold a Gram Sabha meeting to inform farmers about the campaign, and to hold regular review meetings.
The minister said that the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund will help farmers easily obtain loans for infrastructure development at the farm gate.
The plan would help small farmers store and protect their crops.
Under the Digital Agriculture Mission, Tomar said that the 5.5 million rupee farmer database has been prepared and will reach 8 million rupees in December.
Tomar said there is a lot of potential in the Union Territories for growing high-value crops and oil palm by global standards.
Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Admiral DK Joshi, Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Island participated in the discussion and gave an overview of the implementation of various central government schemes in their respective TUs. Officials and delegates from other TUs also participated in the discussions.
During the conference, senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture made presentations to all UTs on the Union Government’s plans for the benefit of farmers.
The implementation status of PM Fasal Bima Yojana was discussed. The NMEO-OP, the oil palm mission and the oil palm strategy were also discussed with emphasis on Andaman and Nicobar.
