NEW DELHI: As a customary measure a few months before the announcement of the polls, the Electoral Commission has asked the governments of the UP states subject to surveys, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur to ensure that officials directly involved in the conduct of elections are not stationed in their home districts or in places where they have served for a considerably long period.
The commission wrote on Wednesday to the chief secretaries of the five states linked to the polls saying it has decided that no official directly related to the elections will be allowed to continue in the current destination district if they are stationed at home. district; if you have served three years in that district in the last four years or if you would be serving three years before March 31, 2022 in the case of Goa, Manipur, Punjab and Uttarakhand and on May 31, 2022 in the case of UP.
The terms of the current assemblies of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and UP expire on 03.15.2022, 03.19.2022, 03.27.2022, 03.23.2022, and 05.14.2022 respectively.
The sources said the EC will aim to complete the polls in all five states by the second week of March, indicating a possible announcement of the assembly’s election schedule sometime in January 2022.
