The 18-year-old Brit stunned the sports world by beating his teenage partner Leylah Fernandez to become the first qualifier to win a Grand slam qualification. Raducanu also became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title in 44 years.

“For me, it is one of the greatest achievements in women’s sport,” Thiem told Omnisport on Monday.
“It’s an incredible journey if you look at the statistics. He didn’t lose a single set in the entire tournament. He came from qualifying and didn’t even play a tiebreaker.
“That is just amazing and something that has probably never been witnessed before.
“And also the way he plays, his technique, the way he moves, it kind of took him to a new level throughout the game … it was great to watch.”
Raducanu climbed 127 places to 23rd in the world rankings after his victory at Flushing Meadows. She is 14 in the race to qualify for the end of the season. WTA Finals.
