SRINAGAR: Political leaders across parties urged security forces to exercise restraint as they condemned the murder of a 28-year-old civilian at CRPF shooting at South KashmirAnantnag district on Thursday. J&K police have claimed that paramilitaries fired in self-defense as the car he was traveling in ignored a police checkpoint and tried to collide with CRPF personnel on duty.
Officials said CRPF’s 40 Bn set up a checkpoint at Monghal Bridge when service personnel attempted to intercept the suspect vehicle without a registration number, but rushed towards the control group, which then fired in self-defense. The head of the PDP and former Prime Minister of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, tweeted: “This seems to be the beginning of a knee-jerk reaction to what has happened during (the) last two days. The CRPF has used disproportionate force, resulting in the death of this innocent civilian. Will there be any action against the happy trigger staff? ”
“Yasir Ali (was) killed last night by security forces at a checkpoint in southern Kashmir. A heightened state of alertness cannot be a reason to open fire in this way. Senior security force officers must ensure that calmer heads prevail and that nothing happens to make the situation worse, ”he tweeted. Omar abdullah. “As I condemn this tragic murder, I send my condolences to the family of Yasir. Allah marhoom ko magfirat farmaye, Ameen”He added in another tweet.
