Gandhis, Azad, others meet President, seek Teni’s dismissal | India News

NEW DELHI: Increasing pressure on the Lakhimpur Kheri case of violence, a congressional delegation on Wednesday petitioned President Ram Nath Kovind and urged him to remove Interior Minister Ajay. Mishra It was in the “interest of justice” for the farmers who died in the incident.
A team led by Rahul gandhi and composed of Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, AK Antony and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, told Kovind that a fair investigation was not possible until Mishra remained at the ministry, calling him the “original source of provocation” that culminated in his son allegedly running over farmers with his truck and is now in custody. The opposition party said Mishra’s own role in the crime has yet to be investigated.
Congressional leaders also submitted a memorandum to the president, listing the details of the incident and alleging a dirty act by the Uttar Pradesh police and the BJP government in the state. He mentioned that the action was initiated in the case only after Rahul and Priyanka gandhi addressed the matter and visited the families of the victims. In addition to searching for Mishra’s scalp, Congress also urged the president to order a judicial investigation by two Supreme Court or Supreme Court justices into the incident that has “marked the soul of India.”
Having made a campaign of Kheri’s violence and claiming that his pressure led to the case against the minister’s son being filed, Congress has held several nationwide protests in the short span of time. The decision to petition the president is seen as another attempt to keep the focus on the ministry and the BJP.
Priyanka Gandhi told reporters that the president assured them that he would address the matter with the government “today.”
Congress said the reaction of the BJP and the government to “deliberate killing in broad daylight” had eroded people’s faith in the system. The memo said that it was Minister Mishra who first threatened the farmers, which is captured on video, and then a few days later, a convoy of cars ran over the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri. He said eyewitnesses had seen the minister’s son in the car. He added that the police would not dare to impartially investigate the minister’s son when the father occupies a position of “high influence.”
