NEW DELHI: A new cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the northern Bay of Bengal on September 17 and bring heavy rains over eastern India, the Indian Meteorological Department (IM D) said Wednesday.
The IMD said that northern and central India are likely to experience heavy rain activity through Thursday.
“A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over the north of the Bay of Bengal on September 17. It is likely to move west-northwest towards the Odisha-West Bengal coast over the next three days,” IMD said. .
“Precipitation activity is likely to increase Odisha and the Ganges in West Bengal, with fairly widespread to widespread rains and isolated strong falls over the areas from September 18 to 19, “he added.
Earlier this week, a deep depression brought heavy rains over Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The IMD added that heavy rain is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan and Gujarat until September 16 and decline thereafter.
He added that scattered or fairly widespread rains are very likely to occur in northwestern India (excluding Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh) on September 15-17.
Isolated heavy rains are likely over Uttarakhand, west of Uttar Pradesh on September 15, over Haryana on September 16, over western Rajasthan on September 17-18.
Isolated very strong drops are also very likely over Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh on 16 September.
