NEW DELHI: Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran khan informed the federal cabinet that he had told the Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army (COAS), Gen. Pakistan’s Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) head in the National Assembly, Amir Dogar, said Prime Minister Khan and Gen Bajwa held a detailed meeting on Monday night on the matter.
The meeting was also confirmed by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry during his press after the cabinet meeting, stating that the issue of the appointment of the new ISI DG Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed Anjum had been resolved and that the prime minister had the authority to appoint the head of the country’s main spy agency in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
Also sharing details of the meeting, Pak Prime Minister Amir Dogar’s political affairs aide said the prime minister wanted Lt. Gen. Hameed to remain as DG ISI in light of the situation in Afghanistan, adding that the prime minister Khan and General Bajwa enjoyed a respectful relationship. and dignity, the report said.
Khan believed that the government wanted to incorporate all the institutions, Dogar said. “The prime minister’s body language was quite positive and he seemed confident.”
The PTI head whip said the prime minister had told the cabinet that he was an elected prime minister and chief executive of the country.
“The prime minister has the authority to appoint DG ISI and held a detailed meeting with the chief of the Army General Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, in this regard,” Chaudhry said at the press conference.
“The federal government will follow a legal and constitutional procedure on the appointment of the general director of Interservices Intelligence,” he said.
The minister stated categorically that no steps would be taken from the Prime Minister’s Office or the military setup that would damage the reputations of others, according to the report.
Referring to the rumors circulating on the matter, the minister said: “I see on social media, there are many who have wishes; I want to tell you that the Prime Minister’s Office will never undermine the respect of the Pakistani Army and the army chief. And COAS and the army will never take any step that undermines the respect of the prime minister or the civil organization of Pakistan. ”
He stressed that both the prime minister and the military leadership were in close coordination and that DG ISI would be appointed after meeting all legal requirements. “Both (Prime Minister Khan and General Bajwa) agree on this and the prime minister has authority over it,” he added.
