NEW DELHI: Old Pacemaker from India Venkatesh Prasad has revealed that pacemaker Deepak Chahar, who has done well in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, was once told by the Australian coach to quit cricket and look for another job. Greg chappell during his time in the Rajasthan Cricket Academy.
The 28-year-old Chahar played a winning shot in ODI’s second series win against Sri Lanka.
Prasad was referring to the time when Chappell was appointed Cricket Director of the Rajasthan Cricket Academy by former IPL chief Lalit Modi after he resigned from the position of India’s coach.
“Deepak Chahar was rejected by Greg Chappell in RCA for his height and told him to look at a different occupation. And he only won one match without even his core skills, “Prasad tweeted.
“Moral of the story: Believe in yourself and don’t take foreign coaches too seriously,” said Prasad, 51, who played 33 events on 96 terrains between 1996 and 2001.
Chahar, who is primarily a right-arm middle pacer, came out at number eight, hitting a 69 of 82 balls that was not to help India clinch a three-wicket victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
“There are exceptions off the field, but with such wonderful talent in India, it is time for teams and franchisees to consider having Indian coaches and mentors as much as possible,” noted Prasad.
