India vs Sri Lanka: Krishnappa Gowtham eager to seize opportunities | Cricket news

BENGALURU: The Indian team for the limited tour of Sri Lanka overs has six spinners in the lineup. In the group of tweakers, Krishnappa Gowtham is the only new face. The others are Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy.
Having won his first national convocation, the Karnataka off-spinner is not overly concerned about competition on the team. Instead, he hopes to soak up the experience of being part of a national team.
“I’m not thinking about the number of spinners on the team. We all know the nature of the lands of Sri Lanka. My focus is on the opportunities that I will have and how I make use of them, ”Gowtham, 32, told TOI on Friday.
The SUV convocation has been in the works for a couple of years, but when it finally arrived, Gowtham was understandably ecstatic.
“When we even started as canyon cricketers, the dream is to play for the country, so in that sense this opportunity is a dream come true. I’ve been looking forward to this break for a while and when I heard the news I was overjoyed, ”said Gowtham, who was Chennai Super Kings‘first pick of the season at a whopping Rs 9.25 crore.
Although he became the highest paid uncovered IPL This season’s player, Karnataka’s front-line player did not get a chance to swing his arm. But Gowtham believes there are many things to learn from being part of the team.
“Yes, I have yet to get a match with Chennai Super Kings, but being with the team has been an incredible learning experience, especially under the leadership of my dream employer, MS Dhoni. Given the talent pool of the team, there was healthy competition between the players on the networks and we all gave our best. I really enjoyed my time with CSK and hope to be back when the IPL resumes, ”Gowtham said.
Another experience that Gowtham says will play a key role in his international debut is being a net pitcher during India’s hometown tour against England earlier this year.
“It was the best thing that happened in a long time because you can play the best bowling alley in the country. When you face players of his caliber, you prepare more before playing bowling on the nets. Also, the national team coaches don’t see us much during national matches, so it provided a platform for me to show my skills to the coaches. The fact that the team was based in Chennai turned out to be a blessing for me as a spinner. ”
