iOS 15: Apple hasn’t ‘forgotten’ this six-year-old iPhone
NEW DELHI: Apple unveiled the latest version of its operating system – iOS 15 at its annual WWDC 2021 developer conference. Along with this, the company also revealed the list of iPhones that will receive the iOS 15 update this fall.
The list shared by Apple also includes a six-year-old iPhone. The tech giant has confirmed that the six-year-old iPhone 6S you will also receive the iOS 15 update. iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and first-generation iPhone SE will receive the latest operating system update. All three smartphones come with iOS 9 out of the box. These are the oldest devices that receive the operating system update.
The operating system update makes the iPhone 6S the longest compatible phone. Before this, the iPhone 5S was the five-year-old iPhone when it received the latest operating system update, which was iOS 12.
However, despite the OS update, there are some features that will not work with the A9 Bionic chipset in the Apple iPhone 6S. Features include Google Lens visual search, live text on photos, portrait mode on FaceTime, and immersive walking directions on Maps. All of these features require the device to have the A12 Bionic chipset or later.
But iPhone 6S users will also get some useful features like notification summaries and focus modes to minimize interruptions. It is also very possible that the update installation slows down the device.
No other smartphone maker promises software updates for devices that are five or six years old. Speaking of the Android side, Samsung It recently promised that it will offer four years of security support for its devices.
