iPhone users, Apple gives you 20-plus ‘security reasons’ to update your OS

Earlier this week, Apple released a software update – iOS 14.7 – for iPhone users, however, it did not reveal all the fixes that will be part of this update. Now, after an interval of two days, the company has launched the iPadOS 14.7 update and now revealed the detailed security updates to come for both iPhone and iPad users.
Apple documentation confirms that the iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7 updates come with fixes for a variety of bugs. Here is the full list of vulnerabilities that Apple is fixing with iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7:

  • It is possible that a shortcut could circumvent Internet permission requirements.
  • A local attacker can cause an unexpected termination of the application or the execution of arbitrary code.
  • An application can execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
  • Processing a maliciously crafted audio file can lead to arbitrary code execution
  • Playing a malicious audio file can lead to unexpected termination of the application
  • Opening a maliciously crafted PDF file can lead to unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution
  • Processing a maliciously crafted font file can lead to arbitrary code execution
  • A malicious application can gain root privileges
  • A sandbox process can circumvent sandbox constraints
  • A malicious application can access Find My Data
  • Processing a maliciously crafted font file can lead to arbitrary code execution
  • A malicious application can bypass code signing checks
  • Malicious web content processing may lead to arbitrary code execution
  • Processing a maliciously crafted image can lead to arbitrary code execution
  • A malicious attacker with arbitrary read and write capabilities can bypass pointer authentication

IOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7 Features
In addition to these bug fixes, the latest software update for iPhone and iPad users also includes new functionality. For those who have Apple’s HomePod, iOS 14.7 comes with an option to manage timers. This can be done in the Home app on the iPhone. Plus, it comes with a MagSafe battery pack holder. The Podcasts app has been redesigned with a new look and subscriptions have been launched as well. With iOS 14.7, the app’s Podcast library allows users to choose to view only the ones they follow or all the shows.
