NEW DELHI: Horsemen of the Kolkata Knights (KKR) nearly shot themselves in the foot, until Rahul Tripathi emerged as their savior to keep Capitals of Delhi (DC) at bay and lead your team to the IPL 2021 ending with a three wicket win, with a ball to spare.
Chasing 136 to win, KKR’s middle order fell like a deck of cards, allowing DC to bring the game to the last end, when at one point it looked like Kolkata was going to gallop home. Up to four KKR hitters fell in love with the ducks.

Prithvi Shaw’s wicket stopped DC’s score: Delhi got off to a decent start, scoring eight runs in the Powerplay, but Varun Chakravarthy provided KKR with much-needed breakthrough in the fifth plus. He had Shaw LBW for 18 of 12 balls. DC’s marker read 32/1 at that stage in 4.1 overs.

The disciplined KKR players never allowed DC hitters to score freely: DC promoted comeback man Marcus Stoinis to No. 3, but Shivam Mavi sent him back after scoring 18 of 23 balls. Delhi’s scoring rate deteriorated further as the trusty Shikhar Dhawan fell back 36 of 39 balls. It was Chakravarthy’s second wicket in an impressive 2/26 spell.
Shreyas Iyer and Shimron Hetmyer took Delhi past the 130 mark: Thanks to Iyer (30 * of 27 balls) and Hetmyer (17 of 10), DC had 36 runs in the final three overs to bring the score to 135/5 at the end of 20 overs.

Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill laid a solid foundation for the persecution: Starters in the form of KKR, Gill and Iyer, laid the foundation their team needed to review the goal, as Iyer (55 of 41) and Gill (46 of 46) added 96 runs in 12.1 overs. But Kagiso Rabada hit the next ball to fire Iyer.

A batting collapse saw KKR lose six wickets by just seven runs: From 123/1, KKR’s scorecard took a disastrous turn to be 130/7, leaving them six runs to win the last two balls. Rabada (2/23), Anrich Nortje (2/31) and R Ashwin (2/27) brought Delhi from the dead, which included sending four KKR batsmen back to the hut without scoring.

Rahul Tripathi hit a six to take KKR home: The match turned into an unexpected thriller and Rahul Tripathi (12 * vs 11) made sure that the good work done by the KKR bowlers and starting batsmen did not come undone as he crushed Ashwin by a six in the penultimate ball to take your team to the end.
