UNITED NATIONS / GENEVA: Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, a leading Indian epidemiologist, has been appointed to a group of experts created by the who which will examine the origins of emerging and re-emerging pathogens in the epidemic and pandemic potential, including SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
Gangakhedkar, former chief of epidemiology and communicable diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is the Dr. CG Pandit National Chair at the ICMR.
The World Health Organization announced on Wednesday the proposed members of the WHO Scientific Advisory Group on the Origins of New Pathogens (SAGO).
SAGO will advise WHO on the development of a global framework to define and guide studies on the origins of emerging and re-emerging pathogens with epidemic and pandemic potential, including SARS-CoV-2.
