SRINAGAR: The NIA It has arrested nine terrorist associates during searches of 18 locations in Jammu and Kashmir after the registration of a case involving conspiracy launching attacks in the union territory and other major cities, including New Delhi, an official said Wednesday.
The National Investigative Agency (NIA) registered the case on October 10 and launched an investigation.
An NIA spokesperson said a total of nine people were arrested, five on Wednesday and four a day earlier, after multiple searches in different districts of the valley over the past two days.
The NIA identified the five defendants arrested Wednesday as Mohammad Haneed Chiralu and Arif Farooq Bhat from Srinagar, Hafeez of Budgam, Owais Dar by Pulwama and Mateen Bhat from Shopian.
“The NIA conducted searches of two locations in Srinagar and seized electronic devices and incriminating jihadist documents,” the spokesman said on Wednesday.
The NIA also said during the day that four accused people, Waseem Ahmad Sofi, Tariq Ahmad Dar, Bilal Ahmad Mir alias Bilal Fafu and Tariq Ahmad Bafanda, all Srinagar residents – were arrested during searches conducted at 16 locations in Srinagar, Pulwama and Shopian districts on Tuesday.
The spokesperson said the preliminary investigation has revealed that the nine arrested defendants are terrorist associates or Over Ground Workers (OGW) of various outlawed terrorist organizations and have been providing logistical and material support to terrorists and facilitating their nefarious designs.
“During searches conducted yesterday (Tuesday), several electronic devices were seized incriminating jihadist (holy war) documents and suspicious financial transaction records,” the spokesman said.
The NIA said the case concerns the alleged plot of a conspiracy both physically and in cyberspace to carry out violent terrorist acts in Jammu and Kashmir and other major cities, including New Delhi, by the cadres of the outlaw Lashkar- e-Taiba (LeT). , Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al Badr and other similar groups and their affiliates, such as the Resistance Front (TRF) and the People Against Fascist Forces (PAFF).
“Terrorist / ground worker associates of these organizations are conspiring with their manipulators and commanders based in a neighboring country and are also indulging in the radicalization of local youth for the purpose of recruiting and training them in the handling of weapons, ammunition and explosives “the spokesman said.
The spokesperson said that these terrorists and cadres have carried out various terrorist acts, including the murder of numerous innocent civilians and security personnel, and have unleashed a reign of terror in the Kashmir Valley, thus defying the order of the state.
The NIA said it is continuing the investigation of the case.
