DUBAI: The ICC will include 10 legends of the game in its illustrious Hall of Fame, with two players each from five eras, dating back to Cricketthe first few days, joining an existing list of 93 of the best in the world.
The world cricket body announced on Thursday a special edition of the ICC Hall of Fame to match the first World Trials Championship final, which will be played between India and New Zealand, starting on June 18 in Southampton.
Up to 10 legends of the game who have made a significant contribution to the history of test cricket will be inducted to join the 93 players, who are already on the illustrious roster, bringing the total to 103.
“We are honored to announce the one-time induction of ten cricket greats into the ICC Hall of Fame to coincide with the first World Trials Championship final in Southampton,” said the ICC Acting Executive Director. Geoff allardice it said in a statement.
“We are celebrating the history of the game and what better way than to honor some of the greats who founded and played the game in different eras. These are all players with a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations for years to come.”
Special admission will see two players from each of the following five eras join the ranks of the world’s best players: Early Cricket Era (before 1918), Interwar Cricket Era (1918-1945), Cricket Era Postwar era (1946-1970), ODI era (1971-1995), Modern cricket era (1996-2016).
The 10 legends included as part of the special edition have been voted on by the ICC Hall of Fame Voting Academy, which includes living members of the Hall of Fame, a representative from FICA (Federation of International Players Association Cricket), prominent cricket journalists and high-level ICC figures.
The announcement will be made during a live program broadcast through ICC’s digital media channels.
The special edition of the ICC Hall of Fame will be presented by Alan Wilkins and streamed live on all ICC digital channels, including Facebook and YouTube on June 13.
