The woman had introduced herself as Jasleen Brar from Bathinda and claimed that she works at the Indian Army account branch in Bathinda Cantt. To gain their trust, the woman also shared audio recordings related to the battalions’ movements. Singh claimed that he fell in love with her because he too wanted to join the defense forces, yet he was unable to pass the exams. ”
“After gaining Singh’s trust, the accused woman accepted his help to obtain some WhatsApp numbers, activated by one-time passwords (OTP), claiming that she needs them for some secret operations and that she is too busy to obtain them herself. . Singh believed him and provided him with the OTPs to obtain three WhatsApp numbers. The PIO used these numbers to contact seven defense personnel and tried to catch them. The PIO also managed to enter two WhatsApp groups of defense personnel, namely ‘Western cmd mutual publication’ and ‘MES information update,’ ”added the ADCP, noting that the PIO, being a member of these groups, is monitoring your chats. and it can catch unsuspecting personnel through social engineering.
The officer, however, said that defense personnel are not allowed to have any WhatsApp groups and these groups were made unofficially.
“In the midst of all this, Singh understood that the woman was being silly and was not going to marry him. However, he did not cut the connection with her. ”
The ADCP added that Singh also told the police that he once received Rs 10,000 from the PIO to his ICICI bank account through a digital wallet as monetary aid, however, the PIO ordered him to transfer the amount further to an account. of the SBI in Pune, Maharashtra. “Also an audio message shows that the PIO was taking him to the Jaipur bus stop to receive a CD, which is being verified,” Bhatti said.
An FIR under different sections of the Official Secrets Act and the Penal Code of India has been registered with the Police Station of Division 6 in the matter.
