In the past two decades, Narendra Modi has grown from a staunch prime minister to one of the most popular leaders in the world. Although not without his critics, the Prime Minister enjoys mass appeal like no other leader in the country and continues to be the most profitable electoral face of the BJP.
Here are some cool things about Prime Minister Modi’s tenure …
Two decades without rest
The last time Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his birthday without holding a high-level position in the government was in 2001, when he was only a member of the judiciary.
Since October 2001, Narendra Modi has been the head of an elected government for more than 20 consecutive years (7,285 days).

Modi served 12 years and 227 days (4,607) as the Prime Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. He was elected as the 14th PM of India in 2014 and has been in office for 2,671 days since then.
This makes Prime Minister Modi the longest-serving elected head of government after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
Although Nehru and Indira did not serve as chief ministers, they held the position of prime minister for 6,130 and 5,829 days, respectively.

When it comes to the prime minister term alone, Modi is the fourth longest-serving leader with 2,671 days in office as of Sept. 17.
If you remain in office until May 29, 2024, you will exceed Manmohan singh, which ranks third on the list.
To break Nehru’s record, Modi will have to remain prime minister until March 2031.
From one state to another
Of the 14 prime ministers that India has had so far, six have also served as chief ministers. PM Modi is one of them.

The last Prime Minister to also serve as Prime Minister was Supreme JD (S) HD Deve Gowda. Gowda was the Prime Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996 and served as Prime Minister from 1996 to 1997.
In particular, among the CMs who became PMs, Modi’s term as prime minister has been the longest, nearly 13 years.
The most trusted poster boy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most profitable mass leader in the country today and has helped the BJP taste success in national and state polls time and time again.
In 2014, the BJP became the first party since 1984 to win the most Lok Sabha seats on its own. Five years later, in 2019, he historically won more than 300 lower house seats with a record 37.36% vote share.
With Prime Minister Modi enjoying unwavering support that transcends caste and religious lines, the BJP has focused almost all of its post-2014 election campaigns around him.
Thanks to Prime Minister Modi, the BJP has now taken the top position in Indian politics after ousting Congress in several states.

Although the recent BJP electoral bulletin has not been impressive, the party continues to rule almost half of the population of India, distributed in almost 42% of the land mass of the country.
Many firsts
Modi’s 7-year tenure as prime minister has also been marked by several memorable firsts.
In January 2015, Modi welcomed Barack Obama as the main guest at the Indian Republic Day parade. This was the first time that an Indian Prime Minister hosted a President of the United States for the event.
In July 2017, Modi became the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel. Some saw the visit as a turning point in India’s position on Israel.

He was also the first prime minister to invite SAARC heads of government to his swearing-in ceremony in 2014.
Last month, he became the first Indian prime minister to chair a meeting of the UN Security Council.
PM Modi has also been awarded numerous international honors due to his leadership and public speaking skills.
In 2019, Russia bestowed its highest state honor ‘Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle’ to PM Modi. The same year, Prime Minister Modi was honored with the ‘Order of Zayed’, the highest civilian award in the United Arab Emirates.
In 2020, Prime Minister Modi was awarded the Legion of Merit, an important American military honor, from former United States President Donald Trump.
In the latest issue of Time’s Magazine, PM Modi was listed in the top 100 most influential people in 2021.
Topping the popularity charts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a favorite of voters since his days as Prime Minister of Gujarat.
Despite various challenges during his tenure as CM and PM, Modi has managed to keep his general mass appeal intact.

According to a recent Morning Consult survey, PM Modi enjoys the highest approval rating among the world’s top 13 global leaders.
Prime Minister Modi’s popularity peaked at more than 82% between April and May last year, when he imposed one of the strictest lockdowns in the world. He plummeted to 63% during the same period earlier this year when his government came under heavy criticism for the crisis during the second wave of Covid.
But since then, Modi’s approval rating has improved considerably and now stands at 71%.
Also on social media, PM Modi remains the most followed active politician in the world with more than 177 million followers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram combined.

Only former US President Barack Obama has more collective supporters than Prime Minister Modi.
On Instagram, PM Modi is currently the most popular politician in the world with more than 60 million followers.
