NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually in outreach sessions of the G7 summit from June 12 to 13 to be held in the UK.
“This is the second time that the Prime Minister has participated in a G7 meeting. India had been invited by the French G7 presidency in 2019 to the Biarritz Summit as a ‘Goodwill Partner’ and the Prime Minister participated in the Sessions on ‘Climate, Biodiversity and Oceans’ and ‘Digital Transformation’ ”, said the spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Arindam Bagchi. on Thursday, the UK, which holds the G7 presidency, invited India, Australia, the Republic of Korea and South Africa as guest countries to the G7 Summit.
Modi will not be able to attend in person due to COVID-19 restrictions here as a result of the second wave. In May, the government had announced that PM would not travel to the UK, but would participate virtually. The UK has outlined four priority areas for the summit: leading the global Covid recovery, promoting fair trade, tackling climate change and championing open societies.
