NEW DELHI: The Ambitious Gati Shakti Master Plan it will focus on moving from “disjointed planning” to “integrated planning” of all centrally sponsored infrastructure projects. Officials said the launch of the program by the prime minister Narendra modi Wednesday will focus on the quantum leap that the government has planned for 2024-25 compared to 2014-15, such as a nearly 100% increase in the length of the NH, a nearly 300% increase in the number of airports , heliports and aquatic aerodromes, a 150% increase in freight transport by train in the next three years and 4G mobile phone connectivity to villages by 2022.
Sources said that the mega launch will see the presence of who’s who from industry, commerce and the private sector. The scheme focuses on continuous movement, multimodal connectivities, reduction of logistics cost, comprehensive and integrated planning for connectivity of roads, railways, ports and airports.
The scheme will subsume the rupees 110 lakh crore National infrastructure pipeline (NIP), which was launched by the prime minister in 2019. The government has planned a number of activities including highlighting the plan to take the country’s infrastructure to a different level and traveling shows in all states, the sources said.
For example, the government has set a goal of increasing the length of NH to 2 lakh km by 2024-25, which was only 91,287 km in 2014-15 and accelerating the annual freight transport by rail to 1.6 billion tons, which it will be 1.5 times more than in 2014-15. Likewise, the capacity of the ports would increase 1.7 times to 1,759 MMTPA. The plan is also to extend the power transmission network to 4.54 lakh circuit kilometers by 2024-25 compared to what it was in 2014-15.
Officials said there is also a lot of focus on increasing the number of operational food parks and agricultural processing centers, from just 2 in 2014-15 to 133 by 2024-25. “Two defense corridors and 11 industrial corridors will also be ready in the next three years and we will have 25,000 hectares of land developed by DMICDC. All of this will bring the desired economic growth only when we have integrated planning and execution, ”said an official.
In a statement, PMO He said that the creation of infrastructure in India had suffered for decades from multiple problems. “There was a lack of coordination between the different departments, for example, once a road was built, other agencies re-excavated the road built for activities such as laying underground cables, gas pipelines. This not only caused major inconvenience, it was also a wasteful expense. To address this, efforts were made to increase coordination so that all cables and pipes could be installed simultaneously. Steps have also been taken to address other issues, such as the time-consuming approval process and the multiplicity of regulatory clearances. In the last seven years, the government has ensured an unprecedented focus on infrastructure through a holistic perspective. ”
