Poonch-Rajouri encounter: Massive searches on to hunt hiding terrorists | India News

JAMMU: Security forces continued a massive search operation Tuesday in a forest area connecting the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities said.
There were no new contacts with terrorists during the ongoing operation in the dense forested areas of Surankote in Poonch and near Thanamandi in Rajouri, officials said.
Five soldiers, including a commissioned noncommissioned officer (JCO), lost their lives when a group of heavily armed terrorists opened fire on a Army search party in a town near Dera Ki Gali (DKG) in Surankote early Monday.
A junior officer and four soldiers were killed Monday in a shootout with terrorists and the shooting later in the evening spread to Poonch district in the Dera Ki Gali (DKG) area.
“After the initial encounter in the Charmer village of Surankote in Poonch, the terrorists fled to the nearby Bhangai village of Rajouri, which is in the Thanamandi jurisdiction of Rajouri, where contact was made on Monday evening and triggered another encounter, officials said.
They said the shooting between the two sides stopped Monday night after the terrorists took advantage of the dense forest and escaped.
“The entire forest belt in the Rajouri Poonch axis has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway to neutralize the terrorists in hiding.”
Officials said high-ranking police and army Officers have also rushed to the area to supervise the operation.
