NEW DELHI: Before parliament the monsoon session begins on July 19, Congress President Sonia Gandhi it has reconstituted the party’s parliamentary groups for both chambers for the effective functioning of the party. All speculation aside, Sonia Gandhi has let Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stay as party leader in the Lok Sabha.
Sonia Gandhi, as president of the Parliamentary party of CongressOn July 15, he issued a letter in which he said: “I have decided to reconstitute the following groups to facilitate and guarantee the effective functioning of our party in both houses of Parliament.”
At the Lok Sabha, the group has Adhir Ranjan Choudhury, Gaurav Gogoi, Manish Tewari, K. Suresh, Manickam Tagore, Shashi tharoor and Ravneet Bittu.
In Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, Ambika Soni, Digvijaya Singh, P. Chidambaram and KC Venugopal will lead the charge against the government.
The letter says they will meet regularly during the session and later when necessary, and Kharge has been authorized to call joint meetings.
Congress has decided to raise issues of inflation, rising fuel prices, Covid mismanagement and the China border issue in the coming Monsoon session.
The party’s strategy group for Parliament, chaired by party chief Sonia Gandhi, met on Wednesday night and the party is of the opinion that it should raise the Rafale issue after the recent development in France, where an investigation into alleged bribes.
Coordination with other opposition parties has been entrusted to Rajya Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge, as the party wants a joint opposition strategy at home to corner the government.
Congressional leader P. Chidambaram addressed the media and said on Tuesday: “The congressional party will raise the issue of high inflation in the next session of Parliament and will demand a full discussion on the issue, as well as a substantial relief to the people of India. ”
