States / UTs must follow prescribed guidelines when reporting Covid data: Ministry of Health | India News

NEW DELHI: The Health Ministry said on Friday that it has regularly emphasized the need for a robust reporting mechanism to monitor Covid cases and deaths on a daily basis at the district level, two days after Bihar reviewed its Number of deaths from Covid-19 by including 3,951 undeclared deaths.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Bihar was sharply revised up on Wednesday by the state health department, which put the total number of deaths caused by the pandemic at 9,429.
In a statement, the ministry said that states and territories of the Union have been recommended to report Deaths from COVID-19 according to prescribed guidelines.
This increase in deaths was due to the 3,971 deaths reported in Bihar after data reconciliation by the state government, the ministry said.
“The states and UT have been repeatedly informed through formal communications, multiple videoconferences and through the deployment of central teams to register deaths according to established guidelines,” the ministry said.
The Union government has written to Bihar to provide a detailed date and a breakdown by district of the reconciled number of deaths to the health ministry.
