T20 World Cup: Ashwin’s return is a good thing but will he be in the XI, asks Gavaskar | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Ravichandran ashwin may have been included in the 15-man squad for the next ICC World Cup T20, but former Indian captain Sunil gavaskar it’s doubtful that the veteran off-spinner has a chance to appear at the mega event.
Ashwin is back in the limited balances setup after four long years. He last played a T20I with India in 2017, against West Indies In Jamaica.
Speaking to ‘Sports Tak’ after BCCI announced the India team for the T20 World Cup, Gavaskar said Ashwin’s selection is just a ‘consolation cup’ for the selectors to make up for his absence in the XI game during the recently concluded England test Serie.
“Ashwin’s return is a good thing, but we will have to wait and see if he gets a place in the XI game. You selected him in the 15th, okay, you chose him in the England team too, but you are not. opportunity in the XI.
“So maybe they just gave him a consolation cup to make up for the disappointment he might get from here (in England). Will he play in the XI? Only time will tell,” Gavaskar said.
