VISAKHAPATNAM: The leader of the CPI (Maoist) central committee, Akkiraju Haragopal, aka Ramakrishna, is believed to have died in the forests of Chhattisgarh, according to sources. He was wearing a combined bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head.
According to reports arriving here, Ramakrishna, also known as RK and SakethHe had been indisposed for some time. It is not clear when the top Maoist, who participated in peace talks with the undivided AP government in 2004, passed away. The Maoists, however, have not confirmed the death so far.
RK led the Naxal Nallamala Forest team for peace talks with the AP government in September 2004. The 66-year-old came from Tumrupeta in the Guntur district and became a target of security forces in AP and Odisha, as it was the main leading force for the Red Rebels in the Andhra-Odisha (AOB) border areas.
He was the mastermind behind many ambushes and raids carried out by the banned group in both states. He was the head of the strategic area of ​​the Maoist base in the triangular border regions of Andhra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. He played a vital role in the merger of PWG and MCCI and in expanding its base to other regions.
He was one of the defendants in the attack on the former prime minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Alipiri in 2003, Balimela ambush in 2008 in which 37 members of Greyhound special forces were killed, the murder of Daggubati Chenchu ​​Ramaiahfather-in-law of former central minister D Purandeswari; and the kidnapping of the collector Malkangiri, in addition to many actions. It was also included in many cases by the NIA.
He was wounded in the Ramaguda meeting on October 24, 2016 in which 31 Maoists and their supporters were killed. He had been suffering from health problems and his time was limited to one particular pocket in the Malkangiri district.
His wife Kandula nirmala she was arrested in 2010 in the Dudari forest along with six other people when she tried to meet him.
