Tough for injured Bala Devi to make it to Indian team, says coach Thomas Dennerby | Football News

PANAJI: India’s top forward Bala Devi unlikely to regain his physical form and make the squad for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 at home, coach Thomas dennerby he said on Saturday.
The country’s biggest name in women football became the first Indian woman to secure a professional soccer contract abroad when she joined Rangers FC in February last year. He extended his contract with the club and returned home in July to recover from an injury.
“From what I’ve heard, Bala has an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury and he’s not with us for that,” Dennerby told reporters during an online media interaction.
“I assume you will be doing your surgery very soon, if you haven’t already. But this is September and the ACL injury usually takes a couple of months. For her, it is really a difficult situation to be ready for the Asian Cup ”.
Sources said the 31-year-old forward underwent ACL surgery earlier this month.
If the experienced Bala misses, it will be a huge blow to the team’s chances in the home tournament. The former captain of India has 42 goals in 47 international matches.
The 2022 edition of the Women’s Asian Cup will be played for the first time with 12 teams, four more than the last four editions.
The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the Mumbai Football Arena in Andheri and the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune, will host all games from January 20 to February 6, 2022.
