This popular combination of Gujarati cuisine is also enjoyed on Dussehra day. It is believed that Lord Rama loved a sweet called Shashkuli which is now known as Jalebi. His love for this sweet was so great that he celebrated his victory over Ravana by eating Jalebi. According to Hindu scriptures, fafda is combined with jalebi because it is believed that one should end his fast by eating something prepared with chickpea flour (besan) as it brings prosperity.
