PUDUCHERRY: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday he urged central and state governments and administrations of the union territories to sponsor and adopt the rooftop solar energy facilities and could also be made mandatory.
“Every central state government and the Union Territory Government Building should have a rooftop solar power plant. Public sector companies should also have the solar power plant on the roof, “he said.
He spoke after inaugurating a 1.5mw rooftop solar power plant installed at a cost of Rs 7.67 crore at the centrally managed JIPMER medical school here.
Naidu said that rooftop solar power plants could also be mandatory.
“Buildings and facilities must have sunlight and also natural air, which were part of the architectural features in ancient times. Now we live in congested places and therefore a rooftop solar power plant should be adopted. The laws The building blocks could also be modified to do so. Rooftop solar power plant installations and rainwater harvesting are mandatory, ”said the vice president.
He described the JIPMER initiative as commendable and said the medical school had become a role model for other institutions in installing rooftop solar power plants.
He also noted that JIPMER had rendered a good service in the fight against Covid by providing help not only to the people of Puducherry but also to those of the neighbors. state.
The Covid-19 pandemic had taught us several lessons, particularly in understanding the relevance and importance of adequate ventilation and the availability of sunlight in facilities, he added.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy, President of the Assembly of Puducherry R Selvam and Lok Sabha member of Puducherry V Vaithilingam were among those present.
Earlier, upon arrival at Puducherry airport, the Vice President was received by the Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Minister, the Speaker and the Ministers. Venkaiah Naidu drove to the Subramania Bharathiar Museum and research studios established by the Puducherry government at the premises where the poet had lived during his 11-year stay in Puducherry.
Venkaiah Naidu is scheduled to inaugurate Puducherry University of Technology and deploy a solar power plant at the Central Pondicherry University facility in Kalapet, near here, on Monday.
