Umesh’s second victim was the rival captain Will rhodes, who lost his stump as the fast thrower flipped the wicket around and the delivery righted himself after throwing, overtaking the southpaw.
With County XI reeling at 56 of 4, Lyndon James (27) gave Hameed good support in his 75-run booth for the fifth wicket. Hameed expected poor deliveries and was ready to tap and run those singles and doubles.
Umesh’s third wicket was a short ball and James mis-timed a shot that was taken by Shardul.
Hameed looked better against Ravindra Jadeja (15-3-55-1), who was punished for a few runs. He approached a hundred with a shot high across Jadeja’s bowling alley.
A single hit in the middle of Shardul’s short wicket brought out his hundred of 228 balls. His innings ended KL Rahul with a lead over Shardul, who had 1/31 in 14 overs.
