WhatsApp and other messaging apps may benefit from this iMessage feature

Apple added an important feature to iMessage (which is exclusive to iPhones and iPads) with iOS 15. This feature notifies iMessage users if Do Not Disturb (DND) or any of the focus mode is enabled on the recipient’s device. However, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform has not officially confirmed that it is working on any of those features, but WhatsApp has recently presented a concept of it. According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp might be planning to add a similar feature to its messaging platform. The report has also revealed some concept images to give an idea of how this feature will work in WhatsApp.
How will this feature work on WhatsApp?
Concept images reveal that the bottom of a chat window in WhatsApp will show whether Focus mode is enabled on the recipient’s device or notifications are disabled on the other end. The photos also reveal that the company could offer this option within the app’s settings and may also include a separate switch for users to enable or disable access to focus modes. The company is expected to include the feature in notification settings, however the option if added to privacy settings would be more suitable, TechRadar reports.
Apple focus modes and notification summary features
Apple introduced Focus Mode and Notification Summary features along with iOS 15. These features allow users to create their profiles, in addition to the normal DND mode. It can act as multiple profiles or second screens for Apple devices where users can select which apps can send notifications, calls that need to be answered, and iMessage’s ability to notify of incoming text messages.
WhatsApp Condition feature
WhatsApp also offers a status feature that can be found in the profile information and works on both Android and iOS. These statuses are not visible in the chat window and users, unaware of the recipient’s status, leave their messages unverified. The report mentions that WhatsApp can use an API to identify status changes and make them visible in the chat window.
Third-party applications that integrate the function
Other third party messaging apps like Telegram Y FacebookMessenger it also helps users connect with their friends and family. Therefore, these platforms adopting the feature will also improve the user experience. However, the chance of this feature coming to other apps is very slim as Apple is expected to keep it exclusive to iMessage only. The report also suggests that if this feature turns out to be one of the ways to keep users loyal to its ecosystem, the Cupertino-based tech giant may never share this feature with other companies.
