Nitin Patel is the current Senior Deputy Minister. As a veteran, he first entered the assembly in 1990.
He was first elected as a minister in 1995. He has held portfolios such as family health and welfare, agriculture, irrigation, roads and buildings, finance and income, water resources, and urban development and urban housing.
The current Union health minister was elected to the Gujarat assembly as the youngest member in 2002.
He was associated with the ABVP and also served as the BJP chief of their Palitana district unit.
At the Center, before being elected as health minister in July this year, he had served as state minister for road and highway transport, and chemicals and fertilizers.
